Skillogalee - Basket Pressed Shiraz 2006 75cl Bottle Review this store Red Wine This Shiraz is another dark, rich wine in the Skillogalee tradition, with intense colour and powerful, warm aromas and flavours. On the nose and the palate there are berryfruit and plum characters and hints of eucalyptus or mint can sometimes be found. Tannin structure is fine but firm and there is a good level of natural acidity. Drinks well on release with red meat, game or rich pasta dishes. The fruit for this Skillogalee Shiraz was handpicked from low yielding, unirrigated vines growing on the slopes around the homestead, around 450m above sea level. The fruit was destalked and partially crushed, fermented in open tanks with submersion boards to ensure the emersion of the skins for maximum colour and flavour extraction, and then gently basket-pressed. Malo-lactic fermentation took place partially in tank with completion in barrel. Maturation for 20 months in a combination of French and American oak hogsheads has added considerable balance and complexity. This wine has been bottled using a Stelvin Closure in order to maintain it's ripe fruit characteristics and guarantee it's quality when the bottle is opened. £15.79
